'Tis the season.... and if you are receiving this email, you know which season we are referring to... the light it up, no holds barred, best damn live music season on the Gulf Coast coast... and it all goes down at your favorite venue...Bowery Station! The Doldrums of December are behind us so check out what we got lined up to kick it back into gear.... Wednesday, Dec 19 - BS Open Mic rolls from 6-8ish. Matt Gardi hosts and may kick things off early to get in the mood for a great evening, then the real talent...YOU...hits the stage. Come on out and have some fun, sing a song... but simply bring out a smile to the stage and join in the commotion! As you know, tips for performers at BS Open Mic always go to a charity, and this week, and next, we will be helping out our friends at the SGI Cat Allies...going to help humanely reduce the feral cat population both on SGI and in Apalachicola by spaying and neutering feral cats! The Open Mics around the holidays are always special, so come be a part of the fun! Thursday, Dec 20 - The Currys come back to town for a show from 6-9pm as we continue to make Thursdays the New Fridays. This lighthearted trio always packs the house, showcasing phenomenal vocal harmonies, well crafted originals, and masterful instruments. With a set list that pleases any generation, the Currys talents are only eclipsed by their love of performing which is always met with the crowd's enthusiasm. One would wager that this show might include some Christmas classics performed in the Currys style...along with a sweater or two... this will be an evening to remember. Friday, Dec 21 - The Bo Spring Band joins us for a Friday show from 7-10pm. Bo, Lauren, Tim and Randon combine to put on a show of originals and covers that are both accompanied by an eager audience of long time fans... the Bo Peeps. From powerhouse vocals, to delicate harmonies, the Bo Spring Band delivers a show that few other acts can rival, as they carry the energy of the room from a listening room tuned into lyrics, to a face melting, hard hitting cover that gets the joint up and on their feet, it's what Fridays in Apalach were made for. Saturday, Dec 22 - Dave Dale kicks off the day from 3-5pm for a fun Saturday afternoon. Dave spans the genres from Country to rock with some oldies mixed in, always striving to involve the crowd with unbridled enthusiasm. Here is to wishing everyone a Merry Christmas as we look forward to a New Year, and a season filled with more of the best live music on the Gulf Coast. ********************************************************************************** Also, here is a sampler of some of the unique events we have lined up going into the New Year so that you might plan accordingly! Monday, January 14th (Yes, MONDAY!) We are opening our doors on a Monday for a very special performance by Shannon Labrie and Kyshona joined by Lauren Spring and Emily Stuckey of the Krickets from 6-9pm. Nashville chanteuse Shannon LaBrie defies genre and brings to life insightful stories of a woman who remains true to herself in a life where uncertainty is certain. The Lincoln, NE native instantly became a favorite among music fans and critics alike with her powerful 2016 album War & Peace. With lead singles, "Alcohol," and "It's Political" the independent release reached inside the Top Ten on iTunes, Spotify's US viral chart and Triple A Radio charts. Famed music blogger Bob Lefsetz wrote, “This track affected me. Made me believe like the great singer-songwriters of yore, maybe this woman has something to say. That in this crazy, mixed up, shoot-up world she can illuminate her story and people can relate.” Kyshona has mixed her love of story telling with the sound of her musical roots. Soulful, spiritual, at times guttural, Kyshona delivers an open honesty through her voice and lyrics. Her desire when she is performing is to connect with and take the audience on an emotional, soul stirring, musical journey. The two are joined by Lauren Spring and Emily Stuckey of Kricket fame for what will be an evening to remember. Sunday, February 3 - (Superbowl Sunday) SPAM Cook-Off 2019! That's right folks, it's Bowery Station's 5th anniversary party, which is always accompanied by our annual SPAM Cook-Off. Plan your dishes now, as this year's judges Eric Pfuefer, Johnny Barbato, Brian Bowen, Clayton Mathis and two time Champ Barbie Everett are eager to judge your entries. The crowned winner will win a bar tab for two for the remainder of the day, rights to wear the coveted Blue Spam jacket while at BS, and a reserved bar stool for the duration of their reign as Champion for the year. After the food festivities, Eric, Johnny, Brian, and Clayton will be mixing up a jam session for the remainder of the evening. It will be great to have these top talents mash it up! Thursday, February 7 - A Tribute to The Beatles featuring local legends Brian Bowen, Cat Braaten and Bo Spring! We have had this trio put on some knock out tributes before, but this time their collective forces pay homage to the Fab Four! As many of you know, their shows have been standing room only and we expect this one to be as well, so plan accordingly. Saturday, March 23 - SAUCE BOSS comes to Apalachicola! That's right, the legendary Bill Wharton will be putting on a show on the Bowery Station stage from 6:45-9:30! Legendary performer (as chronicled in Jimmy Buffett’s 1999 hit “I Will Play for Gumbo”) Bill “Sauce Boss” Wharton brings his Florida slide guitar blues, his gumbo, and his own hot sauce to every multi-sensory performance. His show includes a culinary demonstration with audience stirring and sampling the gumbo. Sauce Boss is a powerhouse of energy with his one-man band. Florida swamp-funk slide guitarist, Bill Wharton has been a musician for over a half a century. On his 1989 New Years Eve gig, Sauce Boss splashed a bottle of his Liquid Summer Hot Sauce into a huge pot of simmering gumbo, feeding the entire audience. The rest is history. 200,000 bowls later, he’s still feeding the masses for free! See you at the show! |
